Primärobjekt [Primary Object] is a treatise of a particular kind. Its structure consists mainly of quotations cut out of original texts. These fragments are arranged in sequence and partly linked by text Wollgast has inserted, so that they form a continuous text with new content that reflects Wollgast's personal thoughts on authorship and the possibility of the new. In keeping with its particular form, a quotation will take the place of a more detailed description here as well:
“The point is not that the thoughts, opinions and judgements of the individual may be false, but that they form part of the one, constantly evolving play of differences, with regard to which the concepts of true and false lose all meaning. Nothing can be repeated or imitated with complete precision. In this sense, difference automatically guarantees the creative and innovative character of every gesture, even when that gesture is ‘subjectively’ directed towards repeating a traditional pattern. But to the same degree, nothing can be truly original, for every utterance and every text represents only a moment in the endless play of language, a moment that cannot claim to be separate from it and thus to master it.” (Boris Groys)
