Märkisches Museum Witten
27. April – 1. September 2024
The exhibition Salon Imaginaire is a concept exhibition. Actually a solo exhibition incorporating the collection of the Märkisches Museum, it is presented as a comprehensive group exhibition and as a juxtaposition of two collections. Alongside the museum's collection, the second collection — that of the entrepreneur Jaques Clio-Lascar — is a fiction devised by Matthias Wollgast, for which he has created several artist avatars, in whose names he produces various series of works that diverge both aesthetically and thematically.
Accordingly, looking at the labels in the exhibition, the artistic work behind each of these names is always that of Matthias Wollgast:
Tea Benz
Rosa Brouwn
Femke & van Dijk
Ron van Dijk
Olav Krogh
The Reconstructivists
Jan Usinger
Apart from the wall text at the museum entrance, the name Wollgast did not appear anywhere else in the exhibition.
